Parenting---The Job of a Lifetime

Parenting is the most challenging of all jobs.  It has been said that ...it doesn't pay well.  The benefits aren't always the greatest and the hours are sometimes lousy.  The work is, of course, never ending....

But oh, what a wonderful job it is...Children never come with instructions....Sometimes parenting requires on the job training and advice.  There is seldom any help ahead of time.  In other words; sometimes as parents we don't know we need help with an issue until we are in the middle of a situation.

As a Social Worker and Counselor, I have learned countless lessons about parenting from listening to the families I've had the privilege to serve.

This blog will teach some core concepts about interacting with children.

This first post will discuss "Parents as Teachers"

There are 4 concepts to remember about your role as the Parent/Teacher of your children:

  • You are your children's first and most important teacher
  • No one should have a greater impact on your kids' lives than you
  • You have t bring to the task all the love, patience, and energy and you can muster
  • Spending time with your kids is important...You can only teach them if you spend time with them.
